New Winter Reading Video: Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell
All Library locations will close at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, November 25, and remain closed all day on Thursday, November 26, for Thanksgiving.
Whatever happened to English magic? That question’s at the heart of Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell, a Suggested Reading in the 2011 Adult Winter Reading Program at the Kansas City Public Library. In the first in a series of videos highlighting books that fit the program’s Altered States theme, we talked with librarian Katie Mediatore Stover about this tale of magicians in 19th century England.
The annual Adult Winter Reading Program runs from January 10 – March 13, 2011, at all Kansas City Public Library locations. The 2011 program offers a chance to win a Nook e-reader as well as the opportunity to see bestselling author Jasper Fforde.
The theme, Altered States, features masterful writers from a wide spectrum of genres to provide unique perspectives on what our lives might look like if humanity took a different turn – or takes a dive in the future. Find out how you can participate in the program, which includes book discussions and film screenings – in addition to a lot of great reading.
