Video: Storytelling for Kids in the Film Vault

All Kansas City Public Library locations will close at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, November 26, and will remain closed all day Thursday, November 27, for Thanksgiving.

Jamie Mayo
Trained storyteller Jamie Mayo knows how to keep 'em on the edge of their seats.

The Kansas City Public Library is full of stories – narratives that walk, talk, laugh, and sometimes even fly. At least they do in the hands of a talented storyteller like our Central Youth Services Supervisor, Jamie Mayo. We recently made a video of Mayo regaling a group of visiting kids at the Central Library.

Mayo has trained with a number of professional storytellers and is committed to the art of storytelling. She was on the committee that organized the 11th Annual Kansas City Storytelling Celebration earlier this November.

When we trained our camera on her one morning a few weeks ago in the Durwood Film Vault, she was performing, among other stories, David Holt's version of the Thai tale "The Freedom Bird."
