The Garcia family settles in New York after fleeing from the Dominican Republic. They leave to escape dictator General Issimo TruJillo vengeace of this secret police- Sim. The Garcia's are fictional but TrugJillo is not during his rule (1930-1961) many families sought refuge and a new life in the United States.

this book was about the daughter of an inventor. well, it was really about the inventor, but told in the prospective of the daughter. the inventor is always coming up with crazy ideas that don't always work. whenever something new is invented, she says she thought of that, but it was a stupid idea. most of her inventions don't always work. she drives her daughter crazy and eventually comes up with a good idea. this is what the story was about.
