Financial Fitness and Job Placement Classes
The Kansas City Public Library and the Urban League of Greater Kansas City are offering five free classes in April and June, 2010, intended to help participants find work, improve their credit, and begin saving for the future.
The classes include:
To Your Credit: Build and Repair Credit
Saturday, April 24—2p.m.
Helzberg Auditorium—Central Library, 14 W. 10th St.
Participants will learn the purpose of credit reports and how they are used, as well as how to order a copy of their credit report, how to read and understand it, and how to build and repair their credit.
Pay Yourself First: Savings Options and Goals
Tuesday, April 27—6 p.m.
Vault Meeting Room—Central Library, 14 W. 10th St.
Participants will learn why it is important to save money as well as how to set savings goals, identify savings options, and determine which types of savings are best suited for reaching their goals.
Getting Started & Using the Four Methods of Search
Tuesday, June 8—2 p.m.
Vault Meeting Room—Central Library, 14 W. 10th St.
Participants will learn how to plan and execute a successful job search. The class will cover traditional job search options such as newspapers and online classifieds, but will also identify additional sources such as networking and employment services (recruiters).
Job Search Communications: Cover Letters, Emails and Phone Follow Up
Wednesday, June 16—2 p.m.
Vault Meeting Room—Central Library, 14 W. 10th St.
Participants will learn how to communicate effectively through cover letters and emails as well as during follow-up phone calls to prospective employers. Samples of effective cover letters and other correspondence will be provided.
Interviewing: Prepare to Dazzle
Saturday, June 19—10:30 a.m.
Vault Meeting Room—Central Library, 14 W. 10th St.
Participants will learn what to expect during a job interview and how to answer some of the most common questions. The class will also cover types of interviews, what to do (and not to do) during interviews, and how to close an interview.
