Anne Bass: Dancing Across Borders
Ballet enthusiast and philanthropist Anne Bass hosts a screening of her new documentary Dancing Across Borders and answers audience questions on Tuesday, September 7, at 6:30 p.m. at the Plaza Branch, 4801 Main St.
The film chronicles the story of Sokvannara Sar. On a trip to Cambodia in 2000, Bass saw Sar perform with a traditional dance group. She was impressed with his natural grace, and upon returning to America, she contacted his parents and teacher to ask him to study ballet.
Sar was initially turned down by the School of American Ballet. He studied privately with Olga Kostritzky, head of the boys program at SAB, for two years and was then admitted to the school.
Sar studied for five years at the School of American Ballet before being invited to join the Pacific Northwest Ballet School’s Professional Division.
The event is co-sponsored by the Kansas City Ballet.
Admission is free. A 6 p.m. reception precedes the event. Click here or call 816.701.3407 to RSVP.
