Bach Aria Soloists: Musical Tales featuring Ferdinand the Bull

The Bach Aria Soloists bring to life the humor and drama of the cherished children’s classic Ferdinand the Bull with music by English composer Alan Ridout, performed by violinist Elizabeth Suh Lane and further interpreted by actor Stuart Rider. This performance includes musical and theatrical interpretations of Roger Quilter compositions based on Shakespeare's "As You Like It," as well as Franz Schubert's "Die Spinnrade," based on Goethe poems. The Bach Aria Soloists includes: Artistic Director Suh Lane on violin, Beau Bledsoe on guitar, Elisa Bickers on harpsichord, and soprano Rebecca Lloyd. Funding for this performance is provided in part by: The Missouri Arts Council, a state agency; and the Courtney S. Turner Charitable Trust, Daniel Weary and Bank of America Trustees. About the performers: Elizabeth Suh Lane has been acclaimed, “...among the finest chamber musicians in America today” by San Francisco Symphony’s Director Michael Tilson Thomas. She has performed across the globe as a chamber and orchestral musician in London’s Barbican Centre, Tanglewood’s Theatre, Berlin’s Philharmonie, and Tokyo’s Suntory Hall. Elizabeth was the first American violinist to join the London Symphony Orchestra under directors Sir Colin Davis, Tilson Thomas, and Rostropovich. She also worked with Chamber Orchestra of Europe under Claudio Abbado, and with Academy of St. Martin-in the-Fields under Sir Neville Marriner. As Founder, Artistic Director and violinist of Bach Aria Soloists, Elizabeth’s visionary leadership brings world-class collaborations to Kansas City. Beau Bledso is a classical guitarist whose interest in exploring new repertoire, cultures, and programming ideas has led to the creation of a large body of arrangements, transcriptions, and compositions for the solo guitar and guitar chamber music. He has also worked extensively with the Guthrie Theater of Minneapolis, as well as Kansas City ensembles such as newEar, Owen/Cox Dance Group, and the Kansas City Ballet. He co-founded the flamenco music and dance school Manos Rojas, the flamenco dance company Al-Andaluz and the independent record label Tzigane. Rebecca Lloyd is the soprano soloist for the Bach Aria Soloists, as well as the Kansas City Symphony, the Kansas City Chamber Orchestra, and the Grammy Award-winning Kansas City Chorale. She is the soprano soloists and children's choir director at Rolling Hill's Presbyterian Church and recently appeared at the Carnegie Hall National High School Choral Festival, the Berkshire Choral Festival, and with the Robert Shaw Festival Singers at Carnegie Hall. Elisa Bickers is active across the country as a solo organist, continuo harpsichordist, and piano accompanist. She is the principal organist at Village Presbyterian Church, as well as instructor of organ and harpsichord at the UMKC Conservatory. Her honors include first prize in the William Hall Competition in organ performance in 2006. She holds a doctorate in church music (with emphasis on organ performance) from the University of Kansas, where her primary teacher was Michael Bauer. Stuart Rider has appeared locally in such shows as The Cripple of Inishmaan, Private Lives, Glengarry Glen Ross, and most recently The Seafarer with The Kansas City Actors Theatre and Unicorn Theatre. This spring he was at the New Theatre Restaurant in The Odd Couple starring George Wendt and just finished a run of Move Over, Mrs. Markham with Loretta Swit. Stuart teaches for Kansas City Repertory Theatre's Rep on the Road program at area high schools. Ferdinand the Bull is hands down his favorite children's book!
