Who was Bayard Rustin?
Why was such an important man completely overlooked in history?
He was part of the civil rights movement from its very beginning and yet, no one has ever heard of him. Why do you think that is? What are his accomplishments, what did he stand for?

How did Bayard Rustin change the course of history and what did he teach a young Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.?

Write a letter answering the above questions.
Address the letter, written in business format, to the Bluford Branch,

  • 12 years and older must submit a minimum of 2 pages
  • 11 years and younger may choose to answer three of the above questions only.

The deadline to submit your letter is Wednesday, March 31st.

The National Public Radio program State of the Re:Union will be presented at the Bluford Branch on March 17, 2010, the birthday of Bayard Rustin.
