Bob Levy: The Dirty Dozen

The Supreme Court

Author Bob Levy makes the case that the judiciary has actually represented one of the greatest threats to American freedom as he discusses his new book The Dirty Dozen: How Twelve Supreme Court Cases Radically Expanded Government and Eroded Freedom.

Alexander Hamilton wrote that "the judiciary, from the nature of its functions, will always be the least dangerous to the political rights of the Constitution."

The Dirty Dozen focuses on 12 cases that allowed the government to interfere with private contractual agreements, curtail rights to criticize or support political candidates, arrest and imprison people indefinitely without filing charges, and seize private property in order to transfer it to another private owner.

Levy is the chairman of the Washington D.C.-based Cato Institute’s board of directors. He has written numerous articles for The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, and other publications. He has appeared on ABC’s "Nightline," CNN’s "Crossfire," Fox’s "The O’Reilly Factor," and MSNBC’s "Hardball."
