Bongo Barry Tribute Concert
All Library locations will be closed on Monday, September 1, in observance of Labor Day.
Join Mr. Stinkyfeet, Funky Mama, Dino O'Dell, and others to celebrate the life and music of longtime Kansas City-area children's performer "Bongo Barry" Bernstein.
A music therapy consultant for the Blue Valley School District, Bongo Barry was known throughout the Midwest for his innovative and entertaining methods for teaching music to children. This past summer, he celebrated the 10th anniversary of Bongo Barry with multiple performances of his Dewey Decimal Stomp at libraries throughout greater Kansas City. His last big show took place at the Plaza Branch. He died unexpectedly at the age of 55 in late August 2009.
The show, which is being planned with the help of the Bernstein family, will feature Barry's music as well as songs by other artists. Attendees young and old are encouraged to wear tie-dye shirts and bring their own drums. Bongo Barry merchandise will be available for purchase at the event.
Beginning at 6 p.m., children can participate in a crafts program to make musical instruments led by staffers from Wonderscope.
