The Cynthia Harris presentation on the life of Clementine Paddleford has been canceled due to illness.

Raised in small-town Kansas, Clementine Paddleford earned international renown for her food writings published in the New York Herald Tribune and Gourmet magazine. She wrote about revived post-war French restaurants as well as the soufflé served to Winston Churchill following his “Iron Curtain” speech at Westminster College in Missouri.

Paddleford also tended her Midwestern roots, reviewing recipes for everything from Kansas pancakes to Missouri potato salad.

Cynthia Harris leads this presentation focused on the life and work of Paddleford on Sunday, March 15, at 2 p.m. at the Central Library, 14 W. 10th St.

Harris works at the Kansas State University Archives, where she spent three years processing the Paddleford Papers. She is co-author of Hometown Appetites: The Story of Clementine Paddleford.

This presentation is part of the Missouri Valley Speakers Series, a program of the Missouri Valley Special Collections at the Central Library. The series is made possible in part by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Admission is free. Click here or call 816.701.3407 to RSVP. Free parking is available in the Library District Parking Garage at 10th and Baltimore.
