The Slow Air of Ewan MacPherson by Thomas Fox Averill
In 1952, Rob MacPherson and his infant son, Ewan, emigrate from Scotland to the very Scottish town of Glasgow, Kansas, to realize Rob's dream of brewing a single-malt Scotch whiskey in America. The experiment fails horribly: the still explodes in 1963, killing a family friend and wounding Ewan. Whiskey, bagpipes, haggis and Robert Burns, all these Scottish institutions find their way to the American heartland in this leisurely coming-of-age tale. Interested readers will meet in the Nine Muses Cafe at 10:30 am on Saturday, July 31. Call 816.701.3683 or email kaitestover@kclibrary.org for further details.
