The Off-the-Wall Film Series screens cult films selected by Pulitzer Prize-winning critic Roger Ebert, who has curated this summer of must-see cinema exclusively for the Kansas City Public Library.

Synecdoche, New York is the directorial debut of mind-bending screenwriter Charlie Kaufman and stars Philip Seymour Hoffman as an ailing playwright who attempts to stage an elaborate production based on his own life before his death. Ebert describes it as a daunting film, adding that audiences “may return to it like a talisman.” Rated R. (124 min.) Films are screened on the Rooftop Terrace.
