The Evolution of the National Security Council: Truman to Present

An expert on national security issues, Dr. D. Robert Worley discusses The Evolution of the National Security Council: Truman to Present on Monday, February 2, at 6:30 p.m. in the Truman Forum at the Plaza Branch, 4801 Main St.

Because the National Security Council’s organization and process is not specified in law, each president has differed in how he structured and employed the Council to support his personal decision-making style.

Worley will draw on the examples set by presidents from Harry S. Truman to George W. Bush to demonstrate what works, predict problems, and offer advice to the administration of President Barack Obama.

Worley served in the United States Marine Corps from 1967 to 1971, with one tour in Vietnam. He earned a Ph.D. in Engineering and an Engineer Degree from UCLA, a master’s in electrical engineering from the University of Southern California, a master’s in government from Johns Hopkins University, a master’s in national security studies from Georgetown University, and a bachelor’s with a major in computer science from the University of California at Berkeley.

A 6 p.m. reception precedes the event. Admission is free. Click here or call 816.701.3407 to RSVP.

Worley’s talk is co-sponsored by the Truman Center for Governmental Affairs at the University of Missouri—Kansas City, and the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum.
