Historical Fiction about Ireland

The New York Times bestselling author Frank Delaney discusses his latest book Shannon: A Novel on Thursday, March 19, at 7 p.m.  in the Truman Forum at the Plaza Branch, 4801 Main St.

Shannon: A Novel is the story of Robert Shannon, a young American hero of the Great War. A Marine chaplain, Shannon still suffers from shell shock. His archbishop mentor in Boston hopes that a journey Shannon had always wished to make – to find his family roots – will restore his equilibrium and his vocation.

Upon his return from the war, Shannon had witnessed startling and lethal corruption in the Archdiocese of Boston.  Shannon travels to Ireland, steps ashore from a freighter in the river’s estuary and is thrust headlong into the maelstrom of Irish politics, with the country now roiling from the civil war that followed the 1921 treaty with Britain.

Delaney is also the author of the The New York Times bestselling novel Ireland: A Novel, as well as Tipperary: A Novel and the nonfiction work Simple Courage: A True Story of Peril on the Sea.

The event is co-sponsored by Rainy Day Books. Delaney’s books will be available for sale, and he will sign copies purchased during the event.

A 6:30 p.m. reception precedes the event. Admission is free. Click here or call 816.701.3407 to RSVP.
