The Metropolitan Revolution
All Kansas City Public Library locations will close at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, November 26, and will remain closed all day Thursday, November 27, for Thanksgiving.
In the face of federal gridlock, economic stagnation, and fiscal turmoil, power in the United States is shifting away from Washington and toward our major metropolitan areas.
In a discussion of his new book, The Metropolitan Revolution, Brookings Institution Vice President Bruce Katz describes how the emerging metropolitan-led "next economy" will produce more and better jobs driven by innovation, exports, and sustainability.
Examples, he says, can be found in Portland, Oregon, where “sustainability” solutions are being sold to communities around the world, and in Northeast Ohio, where groups are using industrial-age skills to invent new 21st century materials, tools, and processes.
