The Friday Night Family Fun series hosts members of the Midwest Children's Authors Guild on Friday, December 18, at 7 p.m. at the Plaza Branch, 4801 Main St., for a special reading of selections from their new Christmas Anthology.

The Guild brings together a talented variety of children's writers and illustrators. Their work can be found in magazines, on the internet, and in volumes ranging from picture books to young adult novels and non-fiction. This professional group of writers meets every quarter for writing sessions and events. Their shared goal is to make reading fun and interesting.

Some of the guest readers include Christine Taylor-Butler, Johana Gast Anderton, John Arthur Horner, Gina Klein and Nancy Pistorius.

Taylor-Butler is a local author who just published her new photo essay Sacred Mountain: Everest. Anderton is author of twelve books, including her latest release, Loula Long Combs Portrait Paper Doll Book. Horner, an award-winning playwright and member of the Dramatists Guild, is the author of The Prayer of Matthias and Other Plays for Worship. Klein is an author of fiction and has written articles for such publications as The Kansas City Star and KC Parent magazine. Pistorius, of Lawrence, Kansas, has published award-winning fiction, poetry, and essays. Her most recent honor was the 2009 Langston Hughes Creative Writing Award (Fiction).

There will also be a special visit from Santa!  The first 200 children in attendance will receive a free copy of the Christmas Anthology.

Admission is free. Click here or call 816.701.3407 to indicate your interest in attending.
