Kansas City's Shane W. Evans, who has earned national acclaim as the illustrator of more than 30 children's books, joins actress, model, and singer Holly Robinson Peete in a discussion of their heartwarming picture book My Brother Charlie. Co-written by Robinson Peete’s daughter Ryan and winner of an NAACP Image Award after its publication in 2010, My Brother Charlie revolves around a boy who happens to be autistic. The book’s narrator is his sister, who acknowledges the frustrations but also the joy and pride in having Charlie as her brother. The story is based on Robinson Peete’s son and Ryan’s twin brother Rodney Jr., who has autism. Evans last spoke at the Library in December 2013 on his book Chocolate Me!.
