Painting Missouri: The Counties en Plein Air
All Kansas City Public Library locations will close at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, November 26, and will remain closed all day Thursday, November 27, for Thanksgiving.
Painting Missouri, a collection of landscapes by award-winning artist Billyo O’Donnell that depicts all 114 Missouri counties plus the city of St. Louis, will be on display starting Saturday, January 24, 2009 at the Central Library, 14 W. 10th St.
This exhibit of original oil paintings – the result of a seven-year effort during which the artist faced almost every weather element imaginable from sub-zero temperatures to 100-degree heat -- captures the essence of Missouri. Subjects include historic buildings, small town streetscapes, fields, streams, farmhouses, and barns.
O’Donnell is founder of the Artists Along the Katy Trail program and was selected as one of America’s 50 Exceptional Plein Air Painters by The Haggin Museum in Stockton, California. His work is featured in collections in the United States, Japan, and Europe. He lives in Eureka, Missouri.
The University of Missouri Press has published Painting Missouri: The Counties en Plein Air, a companion book to the exhibit. The book features reproductions of the paintings in the exhibit and historical essays by journalist Karen Glines.
Admission to the exhibit is free.
