Percussion Group Kansas City

The Kansas City Public Library welcomes Percussion Group Kansas City (PGKC) for its debut performance on Sunday, October 25, at 2 p.m. at the Central Library, 14 W. 10th St.

Using brake drums, bottles, bare hands and bongos, PGKC debuts with a performance as diverse as the instrument group it showcases. Its repertoire includes 20th century percussion standards and new works by contemporary composers. Percussion music often gives new meaning to the term “instrument” in the conventional sense, and PGKC is committed to exposing even seasoned concert-goers to new sonic experiences.

PGKC features the talents of: Christopher McLaurin, principal percussionist for the Kansas City Symphony, UMKC faculty member, and graduate of The Julliard School; Joseph Petrasek, associate principal percussionist for the Kansas City Symphony and a former percussion fellow in the New World Symphony; Matthew Henderson, a former member of the New World Symphony who has played with many symphony orchestras throughout the United States, including those in Kansas City and St. Louis; and Lia DeRoin, a Yale graduate who regularly plays with the Kansas City Symphony and has performed with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the Spoleto Festival, and was a member of the Ensemble Modern Academy.

Admission is free. Click here or call 816.701.3407 to RSVP. Free parking is available in the Library District Parking Garage at 10th and Baltimore.
