Read To A Dog
All Library locations will be closed on Monday, July 4, for Independence Day.
Reading Education Assistance Dogs (R.E.A.D.) will visit the Waldo Branch, 201 East 75th St. one Saturday each month from October 2012 through April 2013 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Children may sign up for a 10 minute slot each Saturday. These animals have been trained and evaluated by Intermountain Therapy Animals and the Pet Partners Delta Society. Parents MUST sign a release form before children will be allowed to read with one of the dogs.
Children may choose from an assortment of books on a library cart. They will then have 10 minutes to read to a dog (parents are encouraged not to remain with their child during the session). Children may sit on the floor or in a chair while reading to the dog.
Photos may be taken after but not during the reading session. Parents may take photos only of their own children.
The reading sessions take place on October 13, November 17 and December 15, 2012, and February 16, March 16, and April 20, 2013.
These events are co-sponsored by Intermountain Therapy Animals. Admission to each reading event is free. The events are appropriate for children ages 5 – 12 yrs.
Call the Waldo Branch at 816.701.3486 to sign up or sign up in person at the Waldo circulation desk.
