Schumann in Love

The Kansas City Public Library hosts an ensemble performance of an original multimedia production called Schumann in Love on Sunday, February 14, at 2 p.m. at the Plaza Branch, 4801 Main St.

In part commemorating the 200-year anniversary of the great composer’s birth, Schumann in Love is a dramatic retelling of the legendary romance between Schumann and virtuoso pianist Clara Wieck.  They survived a stormy courtship and as husband and wife enjoyed a dual-career relationship while raising eight children. Together, they brought a new and progressive music to the Age of Romanticism and a new attitude toward marriage as a mutual partnership.

Hosted by University of Kansas professor John Tibbetts, this event features film clips and readings as well as performances by: pianists Sviatoslav and Svetlana Levin, graduates of the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory; soprano Olivia Betzen from the University of Kansas Music Department); and Stephen Steigman, radio producer for KCUR 89.3 FM.

Admission is free. Click here or call 816.701.3407 to RSVP. Free parking is also available.
