Silver Roots

The Kansas City Public Library hosts classical music duo Silver Roots for a performance that bridges classical and world music on Friday, January 22, at 7 p.m. at the Plaza Branch, 4801 Main St.

Created by Juilliard graduates Maria Millar (violin) and Shawn Wyckoff (flute), Silver Roots perform revolutionary customized programs that draw from original works as well as improvisation in presenting concerts that weave music, history, and candid commentary into inspiring performances.

Violinist and multidisciplinary artist Maria Millar has performed as a soloist throughout Canada, Ireland, China, Japan and the US. She also appeared in more than 170 performances of Riverdance on Broadway as the Solo Dancing Fiddler. Her arrangements and aural transcriptions of Japanese, Chinese, Celtic, Gypsy, Klezmer, Tango, Turkish, blues, jazz, pop, rock and classical music have laid the foundation for fearless improvisation in any setting.

Flutist Shawn Wyckoff is an avid solo and chamber musician who has been featured in performances at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center Concert Hall, the Library of Congress, Lincoln Center, and the United Nations. His orchestral work includes concerts with conductors Pierre Boulez, Leonard Slatkin, and Kurt Masur.
