Stone Carver from Zimbabwe

Saturday, September 6, 2008
4:00pm @ Plaza Branch

In September, the Kansas City Public Library, in association with Powell Gardens, will offer a unique look into the ascension of Zimbabwe as a major influence in international art.

On Saturday, September 6, at 2 p.m. at the Plaza Branch, 4801 Main St., children can enjoy the works of a master stone carver from Zimbabwe as he chisels stone into art. Children can smooth the rough stone with some of the tools the sculptor uses, learn an African song, and take turns making rhythms with mbiras, rainsticks, and gourd rattles. Audience members will hear African stories and learn about the land where lions, elephants, and baboons roam wild.
