Summerfest

The Kansas City Public Library welcomes the chamber music ensemble Summerfest for two "informances" on Thursday, July 9, and Thursday, July 23, at 7 p.m. at the Plaza Branch, 4801 Main St.  Each "informance" is designed to help newcomers and experienced concertgoers develop a new appreciation for the intricacies and beauty of chamber music from the Baroque era to the present day.

On July 9, Summerfest presents excerpts from Handel's Gloria—a work lost for almost three centuries—with guest soprano Gwendolyn Coleman Detwiler. Also on the program is Tempê te de Sable (Storm of Sand), written in 2003 by young American composer Alexandra du Bois.

On July 23, Summerfest examines a rare string quartet by famed opera composer Puccini and a woodwind quintet by little-known Hungarian composer Endre Szervánszky.

Admission is free for both performances. Click here or call 816.701.3407  to RSVP.

Summerfest has enriched the cultural life of Kansas City since 1991 through the performance of a variety of chamber music in a setting that fosters interaction between musicians and audience.
