Author of Thumbsucker and Up in the Air Walter Kirn presents the April talk in the Library’s Writers at Work series on Thursday, April 9, at 7 p.m. at the Central Library, 14 W. 10th St.

The 2008-09 Writers at Work series features writers who discuss their own work as well as the art of teaching the craft.

Kirn’s most recent novel The Unbinding was released as a serial on Slate.com before appearing in print. His other works of fiction include My Hard Bargain: Stories, and She Needed Me.

His novel Thumbsucker was made into a 2005 film featuring Keanu Reeves and Vince Vaughn. Up in the Air has been optioned for film and is currently in production under the direction of Jason Reitman.

His work has also appeared in the New York Times Magazine, the New York Times Book Review, GQ, Vogue, New York, and Esquire.

Writers at Work is organized by Kansas City novelist Whitney Terrell and co-sponsored by Chris Davis and the English Department at UMKC.
