The Westport Historical Society and the Westport Branch Library present Aaron Barnhart & Diane Eickhoff: Price's Raid, Then and Now Second Saturday Speaker Series, September 13th, 2014 @ 2:00pm Westport Branch Library, 118 Westport Road Speaker's reception follows at the Harris Kearney House, 40th & Baltimore Title of Talk: "Price's Raid, Then and Now" Summary: This talk takes a fresh look at the last great campaign of the Civil War in the West, and you're invited to join the discussion about how to remember it today. Diane Eickhoff and Aaron Barnhart give an entertaining presentation that reviews the events leading up to Price's Raid, looks at the key role of Gens. Sterling Price, Thomas Ewing, and Jo Shelby; the part that pro-Southern guerrillas did (and didn't) play; and the accident of history that has kept many people from remembering the Battle of Westport today. Bio: Diane Eickhoff, a historian, and Aaron Barnhart, a journalist, speak on a variety of historical topics and write books together. Their latest collaboration is The Big Divide: A Travel Guide to Historic and Civil War Sites in the Missouri-Kansas Border Region. They live two blocks from the state line in Midtown Kansas City. They are also grandparents and gardeners.
