Local historian Gary Jenkins explains how John Brown narrowly avoided capture during a daring raid on three Missouri farms. A short documentary will be screened prior to the talk.

Gary Jenkins presents an exciting story of John Brown and a small band of his followers as they made a daring raid on three Missouri farms and liberated eleven slaves. Jenkins will discuss how Brown narrowly missed capture while on the trip north from Lawrence. There will be a screening of a 10-minute documentary to provide an overview of the story.
