All Library locations will be closed on Monday, May 30, for Memorial Day.
Dino O’Dell kicks off the 2009 Youth Fringe festivities with a 10:30 a.m. performance on Saturday, July 25, in the Truman Forum at the Kansas City Public Library Plaza Branch, 4801 Main St.
O’Dell has staged several performances at the Kansas City Public Library and at locations throughout the Kansas City area and across the country. He will perform songs from his latest CD, Itty Bitty Monsters, as well as many other crowd favorites.
O’Dell’s performance will be followed by a full day of Youth Fringe Activities in the Truman Forum:
At 11:30 a.m. Dancers from Starstruck Performing Arts Center will present a journey through many different styles of dance.
At 12:15 p.m. Emma Lambi will perform a short live concert. Lambi is 13 and participates in Girl Scouts and volleyball. She enjoys writing poetry, stories and songs.
At 1 p.m. Samantha Drehle, a 14-year-old who has studied classical guitar with Chris Hudson for seven years, will play selections including compositions be Heitor Villa-Lobos and Fernando Sor.
At 1:45 p.m. Jami Amber Lynne, a 14-year-old Country singer, will perform. Lynne has auditioned for Disney and most recently Big Machine Records.
At 2:30 p.m. dancers from City-in-Motion Children’s Dance Theatre will perform their own choreography. The showcase will include primarily modern dance, but ballet and contemporary dance techniques will also be on display.
At 3:15 p.m. Trap Door Theatre will stage a reading of a play by Flynt Avery. Avery casts real people (instead of actors) in his play about helping two losers to fall in love.
