5:30 pm - 6:00 pm: sign-in, drinks and eats, networking
6:00 pm - 7:00 pm: featured speaker/nerd* Joell Dickerson, Business and Community Development Officer, Mazuma Credit Union

Joell will be facilitating discussion on finance as it applies to those who work with youth in the KC area. She'll talk about financial literacy, basic banking skills in the 21st century, setting financial goals, grants, share a story or two about her experience in the field, impart information on how Mazuma Credit Union approaches financial services, and lead a hands-on activity with guests to delve deeper into financial readiness. We hope you'll walk away with a nugget of knowledge you can apply to your daily life, and make connections in the community that serves KC youth. RSVP HERE.

About the speaker: Joell's work is grounded in creating, promoting and monitoring business opportunities consistent with Mazuma’s vision, goals and objectives. She graduated from Rockhurst University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication. In keeping with the mission of the Jesuits – ethics, justice and service to others, she has been an active participant in promoting economic sufficiency in the community. She is also passionate about instilling good personal financial skills in today’s youth. Joell is part of an outreach committee that visits inner city schools to talk to youth about sound money management skills. RSVP HERE.

*For those interested in why we use the term "nerd," let us explain. Our Honorary Nerd is a brave soul who is willing to sacrifice their social comfort for the common good. Each Geeks and Treats event will include a single “Nerd” who serves as expert on a singular topic to educate and inform our eagerly listening geeks who enjoy basking in the abundance of useful information. And, our honorary nerd gets to wear a crown for the night. (Who else honors our brave nerdy warriors like us?) Our geeks (audience) are made up of those who love Kansas City, likely work as part of a youth-serving organization, and understand that meetings happen all the time, but know that epic ones like this happen in the KC Public Library with drinks, food, and knowledge sharing. Tell a colleague and tell your neighbor about this incredible networking and learning event! (Also, have everyone RSVP HERE :)

Henry W. Bloch, John Herron
Before embodying the American dream – co-founding H&R Block and building it into the world’s largest tax preparation company – Henry W. Bloch helped define our country’s Greatest Generation. The native Kansas Citian enlisted in the Army Air Corps in the wake of the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor, and flew 32 World War II combat missions as a navigator on B-17 Flying Fortress bombers.
Celebrating the release of a book about his experiences as a navigator on B-17 bombers during World War II – he flew 32 combat missions – Henry W. Bloch sits down with author John Herron to discuss his wartime exploits and how they helped shape the H&R Block co-founder as a businessman.
