All day	Americans by Choice Wed, 08/15/2012 - 10:00am - Sun, 09/30/2012 - 5:00pm Central Library Between 1865 and 1880, Kansas attracted immigrants at a faster pace than anywhere else in the United States. This exhibit personalizes the story of immigration to the state over the last 150 years, revealing who these new Americans were, where they came from, and why they came to Kansas. Americans by Choice was developed as part of the 150th anniversary celebration of the U.S. District Court of Kansas and is permanently on display in the Robert J. Dole Courthouse in Kansas City, Kansas. A traveling version of the exhibit is coming to the Library. New Compositions: The Dance Portraiture of Orval Hixon Sat, 06/11/2011 (All day) - Tue, 12/31/2013 (All day) Central Library The newest exhibition of the Orval Hixon Gallery, New Compositions: The Dance Portraiture of Orval Hixon, is on display from June 11, 2011 through 2013 at the Central Library, 14 W. 10th St. The exhibit features a rich selection of Hixon’s portraits, including images of some of the best-known dancers of his time. The Legacy of Kansas City’s Hare & Hare Thu, 03/31/2011 - 9:00am - Mon, 12/31/2012 - 5:00pm Plaza Branch To most local landscape architects, Hare & Hare is a household name. The firm has left an indelible mark on some of the most iconic and often-visited areas of Kansas City—the Country Club Plaza, the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Loose Park, Ward Parkway, and Mission Hills among them.

6:00 pm	Lincoln Cushing - Agitate! Educate! Organize! Wed, 08/29/2012 - 6:30pm Plaza Branch Classic American labor posters were created with the dual purpose of entertaining and informing. Now, just in time for Labor Day, Lincoln Cushing, co-author of *Agitate! Educate! Organize!, shares the history and rich graphic tradition of labor posters, in the process revealing much about the experiences of working people in the U.S. Born in Cuba, Cushing is a librarian, archivist, author and lecturer. Among his books is Revolución!: Cuban Poster Art. Co-sponsored by the Institute for Labor Studies* at UMKC.
