Coterie Theatre artists read from Aaron Reynolds’ Caldecott Medal-winning book about Jasper Rabbit and his discovery that the scariest vegetables of all — in his case, carrots — are the ones that follow you home. Young audience members can “jump into the story,” adding their own improvisation. Appropriate for all ages.

The Reading Education Assistance Dogs (R.E.A.D.) literacy program uses therapy animals to improve children's reading and communication skills. Join the R.E.A.D. team at the Waldo Branch the second Saturday each month between September 2015 and April 2016 (excluding December and January) as children read the pooches some prose. Children may sign up for a 10-minute slot each Saturday. Parents must sign a release form before children will be allowed to read with one of the dogs.

In partnership with Harvesters: The Community Food Network, the Kansas City Public Library announces its annual Food for Fines Week from October 12-18, 2015.

During this period, Library patrons are encouraged to bring undamaged and unexpired boxed or canned non-perishable food items to any Library location. Each single food item will be applied as a $1 credit toward the reduction of existing overdue fines.
