Film critics regard 1939 as the greatest year in Hollywood history, when more memorable movies were released than at any other time. Throughout 2014, the Kansas City Public Library recreates the movie going experience enjoyed by audiences 75 years earlier. Each week, the free series Hollywood’s Greatest Year will present a movie from 1939.

Local Westside beekeepers Ezekiel Amador and Patrick Dobson discuss the pleasures and challenges of raising bees in an urban environment. Following the presentation at the Ruiz Branch, attendees will walk over to Switzer Neighborhood Farm to see the hives.

Please do not wear perfume or cologne to the farm, as it attracts bees.

A hat is encouraged during the time at the farm.

Eric Litwin’s Pete the Cat series has generated sales of 1.5 million books. Now, the children’s author is turning his attention to nuts – a new series of picture books, The Nuts, featuring daughter Hazel, son Wally, and mama Imma.

Litwin appears at the Library in conjunction with the release of Bedtime at the Nut House. A singer and entertainer as well as a writer, he delivers a fully interactive performance that also will highlight the beloved Pete the Cat. Appropriate for all ages.
