Are you trying to break in to the world of self publishing? Join us for a presentation from local author Dennis "D.C." Weiser, who has been self publishing online since 2005. Weiser will share his unique experiences from the field of self publishing, as well as talk about several of his own books and materials. Weiser's latest book, The Empire Recoils: The Darker Side of Patriarchy in Bram Stoker's DRACULA, is a work of non-fiction and is in the process of being published this summer.

The Reading Education Assistance Dogs (R.E.A.D.) literacy program uses therapy animals to improve children's reading and communication skills. Join the R.E.A.D. team at the Waldo Branch on July 9 as children read the pooches some prose. Children may sign up for a 10-minute slot. Parents must sign a release form before children will be allowed to read with the dog.

Join Christine Shuck, writer, artist, community educator, and owner of the Deadly Nightshade Farm, along with her favorite hen, Little Miss Crankyfoot (don't worry - she's as sweet as can be), and learn about the basics of good chicken care, their behaviors, the benefits, and how to start your own backyard flock!

Based off of the comic book series Lumberjanes – The MO Parks Department will be hosting a campout at the Plaza Library! Teens will have the chance to earn badges just like in summer camp. Learn archery and earn the Robyn Hood badge, face your stage fright with the Space Jamboree badge, and see if your words can earn you the title Pungeon Master! There are many more badges and big prizes to those who can collect them all! This event is a part of the Mayor's Nights summer event series.
