Find out how to properly prune your fruit trees with Jim Pierce, Farm Outreach Worker with Lincoln University Cooperative Extension, and Lala Kumar, Regional Horticulture Specialist with the University of Missouri Extension at the Ruiz Seed Library workshop, Practical Pruning!

The session will begin with approximately an hour of classroom instruction at the library along with an excellent visual presentation. After a short break, participants will then move to the Westside Orchard across the street for some practical pruning practice.

Come join us at the Westside Orchard across from the Ruiz Library to practice all the skills you learned in the recent Ruiz Seed Library Workshop Practical Pruning.

You will need to bring a pair of SHARP pruners, a cloth, and denatured alcohol to the orchard. A hot beverage or tap water will be provided.

Note that we will be meeting at the Ruiz Library at 9:00 a.m. and then walking over to the orchard together for an educational workday as soon as everyone arrives.

How do you know when your garden is ready to harvest? Should crops be a certain color or a certain size – and how do you handle/store vegetables once you have picked them?

Knowing how to successfully harvest, handle, and store crops all year round takes a lot of skill and knowledge – all of which you can learn about at the Ruiz Seed Library’s workshop HELP WITH HARVESTING.
