Intimate Riot introduces the fictional aesthetic of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Based on Alice’s early published journeys, internationally recognized artist Peregrine Honig delivers a genre-crossing exhibit combining art objects, video, installation, and design alongside text from Lewis Carroll’s timeless classic.

One image starkly depicts the horror of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17. Another reflects a family’s unease — written in their eyes — after the first night of violence in Ferguson, Missouri. More buoyantly, there is Derek Jeter taking the field at Yankee Stadium for the final time in his decorated baseball career.

Though the tangle of events played out 125 years ago – leaving some 200 Lakota men, women, and children dead at the hands of the U.S. Army – the massacre at Wounded Knee, South Dakota, on December 29, 1890, remains a controversial chapter in America’s history. Government officials saw it as an act of war. Lakota survivors, their descendants, and American Indian advocates considered it premeditated murder.
