Friends of the Library
Serving with distinction
Outstanding public libraries of all sizes know that the difference between very good service and excellent service is often through the efforts of their Friends organizations. Here at the Kansas City Public Library, the Friends have provided valued support for over 25 years. In addition to financial contributions, the Friends provide a critical voice advocating for the enduring value of the Library to our community.
Your membership in the Friends helps provide a margin of excellence for your Library. Through membership fees, book sales, and other fundraising projects, the Friends help to pay for library materials and programs not always covered by other means. The Friends also help sponsor the Bradbury Speaker Series, which has in the past featured respected personalities such as Ruby Dee and Ossie Davis, Isabelle Allende, Caroline Kennedy and many more. Other welcome gifts from the Friends include financial assistance for staff attending American Library Association national conferences and scholarships for MLA students.
Your membership is critical to the Library’s continued success. Just as important as your dues is your time and expertise as a volunteer, helping with book sales and on committees to generate fresh ideas for the Friends’ support for the Library.
It’s easy to join the Friends. Pick up a Friends membership form at any Kansas City Public Library location or mail your check payable to Friends of the KC Public Library to the address below. For more information call the Friends at 816-701-3468. We look forward to welcoming you!
