Get By With A Little Help From Your Friends

Be a Friend and join the Friends of the Library, a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the library through outreach and advocacy efforts.

Friends book sales provide monetary gifts to each branch library to encourage love of reading and life-long learning by expanding non-budgeted library programs. Two scholarships are offered annually to members of the Kansas City Public Library staff to attend the annual American Library Association (ALA) national conference and we support the Bradbury Speaker Series.

The Friends offer a myriad of volunteer opportunities from staffing book sales to hosting library events. The Friends specialty book sales – Children’s, Gardening, and Cookbooks – are popular, as are the monthly summer book sales at the City Market.

Join the Friends and meet other members at social gatherings and through monthly tours of local historical libraries: Linda Hall Library, WW I Museum, Midwest Genealogy Center, Nelson Gallery of Art, and our Central Library. Involvement with the Friends contributes to a gem of a library full of information and entertainment.
