Friends of the Library & volunteers

The Friends of the Library is a non-profit volunteer group dedicated to promoting the Kansas City Public Library's programs and activities by providing resources and support to the library system and the community it serves.

Basic Membership $25

  • One free video or DVD check-out per day
  • Invitations to Script-in-Hand receptions
  • Quarterly newsletter

Basic Plus Membership $40

  • All the benefits of Basic Membership for two individuals living at the same address

Contributor Membership $100

  • All the benefits of Basic Plus Membership, plus
  • An invitation to a select Library event

Benefactor Membership $500

  • All the benefits of the Contributor Membership, plus
  • Two invitations to a select Library event

Special events

Become an important part of our Library’s brilliant future and at the same time help to preserve its glorious past. Meet authors and other noted personalities. The Friends have opportunities to help at special programs throughout the year.

On the first Saturday of every month at 8 a.m. in the City Market, 400 Grand St., Kansas City, MO 64106, North Walkway next to the Steamboat Arabia, the Friends of the Library will hold a series of book sales. Book sales will continue through September.

Subject matters cover many genres and range in price from $0.50 to $10.00.
