MVSC Mystery Photo
I'm sorry to be slow in responding to your comment about the mystery photo building.
Actually, it is the Kansas City Water Works, East Bottom Pumping Station and not a baby mill.
The baby mill you may have heard about probably is a reference to the concept that Kansas City was a "baby hub." You may want to read about that on our genealogy page, Adoptions http://www.kclibrary.org/kchistory/adoptions.
Thank you for writing.

Kansas City Water Works, East Bottom Pumping Station
That building is the Kansas City Water Works, East Bottom Pumping Station, which is still standing in the East Bottoms, next to its disused reservoir. It's on the south side of the 3300 block on Nicholson Avenue near N. Indiana Ave and still looks almost exactly the same as in that picture, with the exception of the windows being blocked.
I didn't even know this building existed until last weekend, when I happened on it while exploring that area of town for the first time--I was able to figure out what it was by coming onto the Digital Archives and looking through the Sanborn's. Once again, the Public Library saves the day!
Here's the Sanborn:

Opinion about the Building in the Picture
This looks more like a factory of some kind. The dark car in the picture has a emblem on the door. Can the that part of the picture be magnified to see if it is the company's logo?
Unidentified Building
Thank you for your suggestion. I enlarged the photo on the computer screen, but the logo on the car is still not identifiable. It's a round circle with a darker border, an inner white border, and then the "medallion" or logo in the middle. We'll keep our eyes open for a business logo that resembles this.
Once again, thanks for writing.
