Kids and Family Activities
Comedian and character actor David Ossman hosts an imaginative event that uses the power of voice, sound, and music to explore other worlds, both real and imaginary. Fly the skies above Kansas City and Skylands of New Zealand’s Maori with Amelia Earhart and Bessie Coleman. Steam across the Atlantic Ocean with Langston Hughes.
The presentation is part of the four-day HEAR Now Festival in Kansas City.
Appropriate for ages 5 and up.
The Reading Education Assistance Dogs (R.E.A.D) literacy program uses therapy animals to improve children's reading and communication skills. Join the R.E.A.D. team at the Waldo Branch on the second Saturday in June and July as children read the pooches some prose. Children may sign up for a 10-minute slot each Saturday. Parents must sign a release form before children will be allowed to read with one of the dogs.
During this high-energy, interactive performance, children are invited to join a musical “safari” where they meet different animals whose names are set to rhythm. After meeting the animals, each child is given a percussion instrument… and the jungle jam begins! As the rhythms of the animals lock together, an exciting sense of community begins to develop. This program includes interactive songs, dancing, and, of course, DRUMMING!
