2012 Vote for Books

The 2012 Vote for Books Results Are In!

The votes are in from the 3rd Election Year Vote for Books campaign! Bad Kitty and Babymouse are the winners ! Over 5000 votes were cast metro-wide!


  1. Bad Kitty and Babymouse won with 1,325 votes
  2. Pete the Car and Big Nate received 1,233 votes
  3. Fly Guy and Ladybug Girl received 1,074 votes
  4. Origami Yoda and Scaredy Squirrel received 900 votes
  5. In addition, write-in candidates received 618 votes

Voters were clearly dissatisfied with the choice of candidates based on the unprecedented number of write-ins. Some of the more popular write-ins included:

  • Junie B. Jones
  • Katniss Everdeen (Hunger Games)
  • Harry Potter
  • Jack and Annie (Magic Tree House)
  • Captain Underpants
  • Geronimo Stilton
  • Greg Heffley (Diary of a Wimpy Kid)
  • Percy Jackson
  • Barack Obama

Area libraries are collaborated to promote books and reading and the importance of voting during this fall’s presidential election. The goal of our youth services librarians was that the 2012 Vote for Books would get our youngest citizens excited about the election process while encouraging them to have fun with books.

Libraries participating in 2012 Vote for Books include the Kansas City Public Library, Mid-Continent (MO) Public Library, Johnson County (KS) Library, Kansas City, Kansas Public Library, Olathe (KS) Public Library and Leavenworth (KS) Public Library.
