Last Call: The History of Kansas City's Coda Jazz Fund

Presented By
Steve Penn

Part of preserving our city’s rich jazz history is caring for the musicians whose inimitable sounds were its essence. Former Kansas City Star columnist Steve Penn chronicles the lives of 20 of those men and women, from bassist Milt Abel to soul singer Marva Whitney, in his book Last Call, calling attention as well to the Coda Jazz Fund. Established in 2002, it helps cover funeral and burial expenses for deceased Kansas City jazz musicians and vocalists.

Penn, the charity’s founder, discusses his book, and then leads a panel discussion of its warmly remembered subjects and the Coda Jazz Fund. The presentation is preceded by live jazz music.
