The Kansas City Public Library is seeking a part-time Library Associate for its Missouri Valley Special Collections (MVSC). Under the supervision of the MVSC Manager, this position is responsible for assisting researchers--in person, by phone, and email--with reference requests; helping to locate books, journals, and archival materials; providing instruction in the use of MVSC computers, databases, microfilm readers, and other resources; retrieving and shelving materials; assisting with scanning and copying; and other duties as assigned. Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline, some library/archives/public history experience, or equivalent combination of education and related experience. Successful applicants will be customer service focused; comfortable working a reference desk as the first point of contact; able to multi-task and prioritize customer requests; and competent in using library technologies. The position requires some physical demands, such as reaching and bending, climbing a step ladder, and lifting up to 30 pounds. Salary: $16.31/hour. 20 hours per week: Monday 10-5, Friday 10-5, and Saturday 9:30-5 . Additionally, there is one 12:30-5 Sunday shift per month. Hours subject to change as needed.
