Off-the-Wall 2014 Film Series - 1984: Rave New World

All Library locations will be closed on Monday, September 1, in observance of Labor Day.

The 2014 edition of the long-running Off-the-Wall Film Series, co-presented by The Kansas City Public Library and The Pitch, features musically-themed titles from 1984.

These five films, presented on one Friday each month from May through September on the Rooftop Terrace of the Central Library, 14 W. 10th St., offer a tuneful sampling of what Americans were listening to 30 years ago. Featured are such musical artists as Prince and the Talking Heads, an early cinematic celebration of break dancing, and a classic cult film noted for its innovative musical soundtrack.

      MAY 23 — FOOTLOOSE

      JUNE 20 — BREAKIN’

      JULY 18 — PURPLE RAIN

      AUGUST 15 — REPO MAN

SEPTEMBER 19 — STOP MAKING SENSE

All movies begin at dusk (approximately 8:45 p.m.). Feel free to bring blankets and folding chairs. (Note: The Central Library closes at 5 p.m. on Fridays, but the doors reopen at 8 p.m. for Off-the-Wall audiences.) Admission is free.

This year Off-the-Wall is offering a special treat. Before each feature, members of the Independent Filmmakers Coalition of Kansas City will debut a short film.
