 The Kansas City Public Library hosts the annual Missouri Fifth District Congressional Student Art Competition. U. S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver II and his wife Dianne Cleaver will recognize high school artists and name the top five art submissions on Saturday, April 17, at 2 p.m. at the Central Library, 14 W. 10th St.

The Kansas City Fine Arts Chorale presents a special concert titled Voices: Songs and Stories.

The concert features songs woven together with stories told by well-known local storyteller Priscilla Howe. A former children’s librarian, Howe tells stories from books and folktales, as well as making up her own.

Shatto Milk Company will provide refreshments following the performance.

A jam session featuring Jim Mair’s quartet and some of the legends pictured on the walls follows Haddix’s talk.

Kid-cool rock 'n' roll band The Doo-Dads, a quartet of four dads and veterans of the Kansas City music scene — Mike Niewalk, Matt Kesler, Ken Lovern, and Joe Gose — deliver a high-energy live show with the fun and excitement of a rock concert for children of all ages.
