Twenty-four elite area high school singers under the direction of Simon Carrington hold an open rehearsal in preparation for a performance alongside the Simon Carrington Chamber Singers.
The Simon Carrington Chamber Singers is a world-class music ensemble based in Kansas City. Under the artistic direction of Carrington, founding member of the King’s Singers, the SCCS is made up of 24 choral singers from across North America.
The SCCS sponsors a high school master class ensemble, providing high school students the opportunity to work together under Carrington’s direction.

Meyers is a member of the Society of Civil War Surgeons. For more than 25 years, he has lectured on Civil War medicine. In his presentation, Meyers examines the surgical techniques used during the war as well as the predominance of disease as a cause of death.
>The Kansas City Public Library hosts the Latino Children’s Book Festival on Saturday, June 4, 2011, and Sunday June 5, 2011 at the Plaza Branch, 4801 Main St.
The Saturday event begins at 2:30 p.m. with the key note speech titled, From Immigrant Child to Published Author: Dreams Come True by bilingual children’s author René Colato Laínez. A 2 p.m. reception will precede his presentation.
The Plaza Branch hosts a Bike Safety Event for the whole family.
The event features a panel of local bicycle enthusiasts addressing various issues such as preparing for a bike event, bike commuting, and more. There will also be two Kansas City, Missouri police officers on hand to discuss bike safety and rules of the road.
BikeSource and Family Bike will offer free bike check-ups. SPIN! Neapolitan Pizza will provide a complimentary lunch.
