The Saturdays at Central series continues on March 21, at 2 p.m. at the Central Library, 14 W. 10th St., with storyteller/ventriloquist/songstress Sandi Sylver.

The multitalented performer, described as “an amazingly funny ventriloquist” presents The Doctor Is In: The All Dr. Seuss Show to celebrate the famed author’s birthday.

The Library seeks participation from patrons and non-patrons alike. Discussion points of particular interest are general Library services, breadth of the collection and media formats, online accessibility and provisions, along with customer expectations of DVD, CD, and best-seller collections.

With a track record of bringing exciting and educational science experiences to Kansas City since 2002, Mad Science’s latest program explains the science of sports, Newton’s laws of motion, and features a rocket blastoff.

In the third of five programs, Kathryn DiFoxfire presents a multi-media look at caving in Missouri’s State Parks in a talk titled Caving in Missouri’s State Parks on Tuesday, March 17, at 6:30 p.m.at the Central Library, 14 W. 10th St.

Food Writing

The Cynthia Harris presentation on the life of Clementine Paddleford has been canceled due to illness.

Raised in small-town Kansas, Clementine Paddleford earned international renown for her food writings published in the New York Herald Tribune and Gourmet magazine. She wrote about revived post-war French restaurants as well as the soufflé served to Winston Churchill following his “Iron Curtain” speech at Westminster College in Missouri.

Paddleford also tended her Midwestern roots, reviewing recipes for everything from Kansas pancakes to Missouri potato salad.

Cynthia Harris leads this presentation focused on the life and work of Paddleford on Sunday, March 15, at 2 p.m. at the Central Library, 14 W. 10th St.
