Billie Howard Barnes is a fourth grade teacher at the Pembroke Hill School. She is the recipient of several educational awards and was a UMKC Fellow of The Greater Kansas City Writing Project. Howard Barnes is a graduate of Spelman College in Atlanta, where she attained a bachelor’s degree in English literature. In 2010, she earned a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an endorsement in Gifted and Talented Education from the University of Kansas. Howard Barnes was appointed to the Library Board in August, 2005.

SYNOPSIS: The Widow Douglas offers to take Huckleberry Finn into her home as a token of her thanks for his heroism, which has been divulged by the Welshman. Then Tom and Huck reveal their newfound riches before an audience of the most prominent citizens of St. Petersburg.
