2013 Jackson County Spelling Bee Holds Championship at Plaza Branch Library

Cheer on the top Kansas City area spellers competing at the Jackson County Championship Spelling Bee on Saturday, February 23, 2013, at 9 a.m., at The Kansas City Public Library's Plaza Branch, 4801 Main St.  Spellers competing in the Championship Bee not only represent the best in their school but the best of their spelling bee division.

The last speller standing will represent Jackson County at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C. this spring.

Three-time winner of the Jackson County Spelling Bee, Jordan Huffman of Lee's Summit, completed her Scripps National Spelling Bee career last year with a top 10 finish.

The Scripps National Spelling Bee is the nation's largest and longest-running educational program. Its purpose is to help students improve spelling, increase vocabularies, learn concepts, and develop correct English usage that will help them all of their lives.

The Kansas City Public Library, in partnership with the Mid-Continent Public Library, LINC: Local Investment Commission, and the Kansas City Federation of Teachers and School Personnel are proud to host this year's Jackson County Spelling Bee.

Visit spellingbee.com for more information about the Scripps National Spelling Bee, which is administered on a not-for-profit basis by the E.W. Scripps Company.
