The Cradle of Entrepreneurs Series Offers A Conversation with Kansas City's Own Motorcycle Maven

Library Director Crosby Kemper III conducts a public conversation with Gail of Gail's Harley-Davidson, on Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at 6:30 p.m. at the Central Library, 14 W. 10th St.

A native of Belton, Missouri, Gail worked as a teenager at her father's motorcycle shop and entered the male-dominated white-collar business world as a Harley-Davidson finance manager.

As a general manager she increased sales a minimum of 15% every year from 1996 to 2000.

In 2000 she purchased the dealership from her parents, becoming one of the few female Harley-Davidson dealership owners. Today Gail's in Grandview is the largest Harley-Davidson outlet in the Midwest. It has regularly been recognized in the top 15% of Harley dealers for customer satisfaction and in 2006 it was named one of the Top 10 Small Businesses in Kansas City by the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce.

Gail established the American Heartland-Kansas City Chapter of the Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.), which today boasts nearly 2,000 members, making it one of the country's largest and fastest growing chapters.

The dealership sponsors many charity rides throughout the year, including those for Special Olympics, Wayside Waif, Hurricane Relief, 9-11 Remembrance, and March of Dimes.

This event is a continuation of the Library's Cradle of Entrepreneurs series with a new emphasis on Kansas City women business owners and founders. It is co-sponsored by the Central Exchange.

Admission is free. A 6 p.m. reception precedes the event. RSVP at or call 816.701.3407.

Free parking is available in the Library District Parking Garage at 10th & Baltimore.
