December 28, 2011
The Kansas City Public Library hosts the artistic team from the Kansas City Repertory Theatre’s upcoming production of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer on Tuesday, January 17, 2012, at 6:30 p.m. at the Central Library, 14 W. 10th St.
The artistic team – including actors Tim McKiernan (Tom Sawyer) and Hayley Treider (Becky Thatcher) as well as KC Rep’s Director of Education and Community Programs Melinda McCrary – will discuss their new and imaginative staging of the Mark Twain literary classic, which was celebrated this past fall during The Big Read coordinated by the Library and Kansas City Ballet. Actors will perform a well-known scene from the novel, and the creative team will discuss the unique process of adapting literature into exciting theater.
Described by The New York Times as “near perfect,” the script for this production was written by award-winning playwright Laura Eason.
Admission is free. A 6 p.m. reception precedes the event. RSVP online or call 816.701.3407. Free parking is available at the Library District Parking Garage at 10th & Baltimore.
This event is co-sponsored by Kansas City Repertory Theatre.
Major funding for programs at the Kansas City Public Library is provided by a generous grant from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation.
